Rev. Lydia P. Ford Tells Her Readers: “Don't Forget to Say Your Prayers”

By: WebWire

How should Christians treat their prayer life? How should one's heart and mind be when praying? Rev. Lydia P. Ford answers these and other questions in her book “Don't Forget to Say Your Prayers: How to Activate the Power of Prayer in Every Circumstance of Your Life” (Total Publishing and Media; 2012).

What started as therapeutic journaling became a Christian ministry, and what started as a ministry became a book, which the author published with a greater purpose of empowering believers in their prayer journey and helping them gain a new perspective on prayer.

“I always knew the day would come for me to write a book which includes that title,” Rev. Ford wrote in her book's introduction.

“Keeping a journal for over fourteen years has become valuable and therapeutic for me. I began writing in 1994. I wrote about whatever was going on in my life at that time. Often, I wrote letters to God asking for his help and intervention in my life. At other times, I wrote praise reports and testimonies about the goodness of the Lord. There were times when I wrote about hurtful situations that occurred in my marriage, ministry, with my co-workers, church members, friends, and even my enemies.”

Rev. Ford acknowledged that her journey to spiritual maturity and prayerful diligence was not a smooth and steady one. Though she grew up in church and actively served in any church capacity, she realized she really was not as close to the Lord as she should have been. She admitted she did not have the prayer life and closeness to God as what she would hear her elders talk about. She thought whatever she prayed was good enough for God to hear.

But, as for anyone who took the time to discern their spiritual health status and prayer life, these years of spiritual desolation would not last. Various experiences – and blessings – in life would push the author to gradually find her spiritual footing and solidify her faith in God.

“I began to seek God's face and not his hand. Reading books on topics such as finding your purpose, prayer, faith, the Holy Spirit, and developing your spiritual gifts became a priority for me. I was hungry to learn more about God and excited about learning more and more about how to experience more of His presence in my life.”

The author hopes that her book “Don't Forget to Say Your Prayers” will inspire her readers to seek God's plan for their lives and develop an intimate time of fellowship and prayer with Him. She encourages her readers to look beyond their current circumstances as God will take their misery and turn it into a ministry.

“He wants us to live in hope and expectation. We must trust and believe that the same God that brought us to the tomb of death and sorrow is the same God that will bring resurrection and new life to what seems a hopeless situation.
