The center also offers a PHP/Day Program, outpatient therapy, and step-down support for adolescents transitioning home after a higher level of care.
National data from the Health Resources and Services Administration shows the scale of the challenge: in 2023, more than 5.3 million adolescents ages 12 to 17 — over 20% of that age group — had a diagnosed mental or behavioral health condition. Between 2016 and 2023, diagnosed anxiety among teens increased by 61% and diagnosed depression rose by 45%, according to the same agency.
These numbers point to a growing population of teens who need timely, effective support. California Teen Center's coordinated care model is designed to meet families at different stages, from teens struggling with school refusal, self-harm, or trauma to those transitioning home after a psychiatric hospitalization.
