Provo, Utah, Aug. 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Novarad has updated more than 1,000 NovaPACS EI customers worldwide to version 9.1, a major security upgrade that also brings assistive intelligence directly into the read, extends secure access to mobile devices, and adds advanced modality views across cranial, breast, cardiac, and abdominal imaging.

The world is changing, and healthcare facilities are a prime target for hackers. Sixty-seven percent of healthcare organizations were hit by hackers last year, a four-year high, according to Sophos’ State of Ransomware in Healthcare. And 80 percent of compromised records are not stolen directly from hospital servers — they come in through third-party vendors and software partners. The need for security has never been higher.

Enhanced security was a driving reason behind 9.1, and the release is a major security upgrade. Protecting customer data is a Novarad priority, and the company treats it as one. “The entire ecosystem is built, tested, and supported by Novarad,” said CEO and Founder Dr. Wendell Gibby. This means fewer outside hands on the software that holds a facility’s images and data.

Security is not the goal on its own. Facilities care about getting work done, and a hack is a bad day for everyone in the department. Novarad invests in what matters most to its customers — security and efficiency — because keeping a facility secure is what keeps it moving.

Enterprise Security — 9.1 is security your way. Facilities choose the authentication model that fits the environment they already run: Azure SSO using the credentials the organization already issues, LDAP, or two-factor authentication — each governed by the access policies IT already enforces rather than a separate set maintained alongside them. Underneath, improvements to service redundancy and load balancing across servers keep the system available as that environment grows.

NovaPACS EI also integrates securely with Epic's EMR along with all major EMR vendors, putting imaging in front of clinicians inside the EMR as part of the implementation.

Built-in AI — NovaPACS EI 9.1 includes an assistive intelligence suite that runs inside the read rather than alongside it. It includes segmenting organs, coronary arteries, bone, vertebrae, and the heart, and calculates body fat, with new segmentation models added this cycle. A built-in AI training system with image labeling extends that work further by allowing sites to train their own models. Because the tools sit in the reading environment, radiologists get AI output without leaving the study or moving into a separate application.

Secure mobile reading — MobileRad360 makes PACS accessible from mobile devices with Novarad multifactor authentication built in. This includes radiologists viewing their schedules, correcting reports, and even signing reports if transcription is used.

Advanced modality views — 9.1 extends modality-specific reading across cranial, breast, cardiac, and abdominal imaging, with viewer behavior and hanging protocols tuned to what each study type requires rather than a single generic layout. MammoIQ breast imaging adds advanced three-modality analysis. NovaCardio adds updated stress echo and ECG viewers, refreshed hanging protocols, and cardiac structured reporting, so cardiac studies are read in the same environment as the rest of a facility’s imaging rather than in a separate system with its own login, worklist, and report format. The simplified UI is designed specifically for cardiologist reading workflows.

With 9.1, Novarad continues to strengthen NovaPACS EI around what healthcare organizations need most: secure, reliable access to imaging and tools that make clinical workflows more efficient. The update is available now to NovaPACS EI customers worldwide.
