Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program brings meaningful relief to community members within 90 days of program launch
Southern California Edison made a promise to eligible community members impacted by the Eaton Fire: To provide fair and fast relief by delivering compensation offers within 90 days of a complete submission. Today, 90 days after program launch, 210 offers have been extended to individuals and businesses through the Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program, totaling $117 million.
On average, offers are being provided 30 days after a substantially complete claim. Offers range from $13.1 million for a claimant with multiple properties to $20,000 for a tenant with non-burn damage.
“We know that many in the community are weighing whether this program is right for them,” said Pedro J. Pizarro, president and CEO of Edison International, SCE’s parent company. “Our hope is that people will take a look at the program, fill out a claim and see if it is the right decision for them. The recovery we are starting to see in the Altadena area is inspiring and a reminder of what this program was designed to do.”
The program is designed to offer compensation commensurate with settlement values for similar claims in past wildfire lawsuits, with a more streamlined and much faster approach. There are many forms of compensation available to claimants through the program, including economic loss (for property damage, business interruption and physical injury), non-economic loss (for personal impacts), a Direct Claim Premium (for participating in the program) and attorneys’ fees (for those represented by counsel, if applicable).
Actual offers extended through the program include the following:
- $135,000 for a tenant household with smoke and ash damage to the primary and secondary structure
- Nearly $650,000 for a tenant household deemed a total loss for a claim submitted by their attorney
- Over $2.7 million for an owner household deemed a total loss for a claim submitted by their attorney, in addition to insurance proceeds
Since launching on Oct. 29, 2025, and as of Jan. 29, 2026:
- 2,149 claims submitted for households, consisting of more than 6,000 individuals
- 210 offers extended, totaling $117 million
- 59 claim payments already made to individuals and more in process
Legal Participation Optional and Streamlined for Participating Firms
Submitting a claim takes just over 100 minutes. But it’s not just directly impacted individuals and businesses who are considering the program. Of the thousands of claims submitted, more than 30% have been submitted by plaintiffs’ attorneys and authorized representatives.
In fact, as requested by counsel, law firms can now leverage a batch intake process. This new approach allows law firms to submit all claims through a single intake process, reducing administrative cycle times and accelerating offers. A dedicated SCE team serves as the primary point of contact, providing smooth coordination and support for firms managing multiple eligible claimants in the program.
Prompt and Certain
The voluntary program is delivering fair resolutions that closely track to actual settlement values for comparable claims in past wildfire lawsuits — at a significantly faster pace and without the uncertainty of lengthy litigation. Claims can be submitted by individuals and businesses through Nov. 30, 2026.
- Claimants receive a settlement offer within 90 days of a fully documented, substantially complete claim.
- Payments are made within 30 days after all conditions have been satisfied in the settlement agreement, including SCE’s receipt of it — signed and notarized.
- If a claim requires analysis beyond the Fast Pay option, a Detailed Review is available. Several claimants have requested this already to address unique circumstances.
