Utah and Salt Lake County residents now have expanded access to mental health and addiction services as Liberty moves its residential program from Bluffdale to a larger American Fork location

Liberty Addiction Recovery Centers has relocated its Utah addiction treatment program to a significantly larger facility in American Fork to address the urgent need for addiction and mental health services across Salt Lake and Utah County. The new 27,000-square-foot center at 1088 E 390 S is now open and actively serving clients who suffer from mental health and addiction challenges.
Founded in 2019, Liberty has grown steadily to meet demand in a state grappling with rising rates of substance use disorders, particularly involving opioids and methamphetamine. The new facility marks a major expansion, with a total capacity of 60 beds for residential and 40 additional beds for sober living or transitional housing.
“Over the past two years, we’ve had to turn people away or place them on waiting lists because we simply didn’t have the space,” said Roger Williams, founder of Liberty Addiction Recovery Centers. “This move allows us to meet that growing demand and ensure that when someone is ready to get help, we have a bed available. Timing matters in recovery. We don’t want cost, location, or capacity to be the reason someone doesn’t get treatment.”
The new facility offers more spacious living quarters and common areas designed to support long-term recovery. An on-site full-service kitchen and dining room ensures clients receive healthy, ‘home-cooked’ meals three times a day, and daily have access to local rec centers to build health and fitness or just relax in a hot tub.
Liberty accepts Medicaid, a rarity among Utah treatment centers, making it a critical resource for individuals who might otherwise face barriers to care. Liberty is also credentialed with additional insurance providers to further expand access.
One of the most significant changes with the move is Liberty’s transition to a Primary Mental Health facility designation, allowing the center to treat both addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions under one roof. This dual-diagnosis capability addresses a critical gap in care for individuals struggling with both substance use and mental health disorders.
“As clinicians, we know that the environment plays a huge role in recovery,” said Courtney Baker, LCSW, Clinical Director at Liberty. “This new space will allow us to offer more specialized programming, better therapeutic spaces, and a setting that supports healing from day one. It also means our team can take on more clients without compromising the quality of care. We’re excited to bring the same trauma-informed, evidence-based approach to a facility that was designed with recovery in mind.”
American Fork and the surrounding Utah County area have seen significant population growth in recent years, but access to quality addiction treatment hasn’t kept pace. By relocating into this community, Liberty is creating local access to evidence-based care, reducing travel barriers, and building partnerships with local hospitals, law enforcement, and mental health providers. The organization also plans to offer community education events and family support resources to help break down the stigma around addiction and make it easier for families to get the help they need.
Liberty Addiction Recovery Centers offers a full continuum of care across two locations. The residential program in American Fork provides intensive, around-the-clock support, while the outpatient facility in West Jordan (6671 S Redwood Rd, Suite 201) offers intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and partial hospitalization programs (PHP) for clients transitioning from residential care or seeking treatment while maintaining work and family responsibilities.
Liberty also provides scholarships for sober living to qualifying clients who complete its residential program or meet the entrance requirements to its PHP outpatient program. This gives clients the certainty of a safe, managed, drug-free housing without financial stress in the critical early few months following residential treatment. Liberty also provides detox placement services, working with partner facilities to get clients into detox within 24 hours when medically necessary.
The American Fork center specializes in treating trauma-informed addiction and provides care for individuals struggling with alcohol, fentanyl, heroin, prescription opioids, alcohol, methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepines, and other substance use disorders. Liberty also offers lifelong support through an active alumni program.
