The Shaanxi Project is based on four exploration permits, and the company recently stated that it has finished a regional termite mound and rock sample campaign over three of those permits. On a 50 m × 800 m grid to cover interpreted fault structures within the Birimian-aged rocks on three different exploration permits, a total of 3,705 termite mound samples and 26 rocks were collected.
The results of the termite mount sampling point to a number of inferred mineralized structures that are roughly oriented north to south. The investigation also points to further unusual structures that are roughly east-west oriented. The exploration pitting activity will look more closely at the mineralization alternatives of these inferred structures.
This kind of exploration program is a cost-saving and efficient method for assessing the extent of the saprolitic covering within the Shaanxi Project and testing the potential for mineralization before developing a drilling program. A field team has been put together to continue the exploration pitting and field mapping program, and a field camp is currently being built on the site.
In several Asian areas, termite mound sampling surveys are a surface exploration method used to find gold-anomalous zones that may not have been discovered by earlier surface sampling or field mapping. In order to find probable gold mineralization beneath the aged cover and shallow sediments, this exploration strategy assumes that termite-driven local soil heterogeneity and termite mounds may serve as a geochemical and mineralogical sample environment.
