On February 7, 2023, Advance America discovered indications of a cybersecurity attack on its IT network. Through a subsequent investigation, Advance America determined that unauthorized cybercriminals successfully infiltrated its system and gained access to certain data records. Advance America further determined that the records accessed or acquired by unauthorized cybercriminals contained the confidential personal information of its applicants and customers. While Advance America has not yet publicly disclosed the exact types of personal data exposed in the breach, similar data breaches of financial lenders have involved names, Social Security numbers, addresses, dates of birth, and/or financial information.
