The Cedars Care Centre, a specialist nursing care facility based in Barnet, has hosted its yearly summer BBQ party. The event brings the local community together, highlights the dedicated work of The Cedars staff, and invites families and friends to spend quality time together in a welcoming garden setting.
Hosted as an annual celebration of the summer season, this year's event took place on August 2nd. It was part of a busy calendar of events focused on embracing the warmer weather while keeping residents happy and comfortable during the heatwaves.
Local Barnet Care Centre Throws Open Its Doors for Annual Summer Celebration
Part of the acclaimed Forest Healthcare group, The Cedars is a private centre that caters for adults aged 18 and over. It supports residents with a range of health and cognitive or physical conditions, with 24-hour support from a team of compassionate carers, nurses, and support colleagues.
While the centre specialises in dementia care, it also provides long-term nursing, respite, post-operative, and palliative care, making it a valued part of the Barnet community and a facility that countless local families have relied upon over the years.
Housed in a restored period property, The Cedars regularly holds events to which families and friends are warmly welcomed to attend, using its spacious wood-panelled dining hall, shady patios, and lawns to accommodate as many people as wish to participate.
The summer BBQ is highly anticipated, when residents, staff, and guests relax in the gardens, surrounded by delicious food, bunting, balloons, and décor that transform the lawns into a festive backdrop, accompanied by music, singing, and dancing.
Ahmad Sookheea, Manager of The Cedars says, 'I'm incredibly grateful for the enormous efforts our staff put in this and every year, spending time on decorations, ensuring every resident was well catered for, and creating a beautiful spread complete with elegantly folded napkins and balloons that make it feel like such a special occasion.
Garden parties are always a brilliant experience for our residents, and for us as a team, and it was wonderful to see so many families popping in to share a plate, chat with their friends or loved ones, and get to see some of the vibrant colours we are so lucky to enjoy when the gardens are in full bloom.'
Fostering Community Connections Through Care Centre Events
Alongside its annual BBQ party, The Cedars hosts a varied calendar of summer events, including cold towel therapies as a way for residents to relax, cool down, and unwind during the hotter summer days, and utilising the property’s interior to enjoy activities such as painting, crafts, and games.
During the summer, residents have also been invited to participate in several off-site excursions, including:
-
Travelling to the RAF Museum to explore the exhibits
-
Visiting Trent Park for animal meet and greets
-
Enjoying afternoon tea at the local garden centre
Staff even organised a visit from a wildlife team, who introduced residents to exotic snakes, giant snails, and lizards – an experience which, for many, was a first.
Ahmad explains that ‘Life at The Cedars is about quality and enjoyment, and while many residents may have specific and sometimes profound care needs, that never means that they aren’t able to access fun activities, make new memories, or be involved with events and celebrations.
We believe that enrichment is just as important as the quality of care we provide, which is why The Cedars feels like a true family and community, a place where everyone can expect a kind welcome, a friendly face, and to feel included and respected.
Hosting open days and parties is also a great way for us to show our appreciation for our exceptional care teams, caterers and housekeeping staff, and to remain a longstanding part of the community here in Barnet.'
