Focused on Lower Middle Market Investments that Provide Jobs and Essential Services in Communities across America

ALT+J Holdings (ALT+J), a private investment firm and multi-family office focused on the lower middle market, launched today with five platform investments combining for $1.5 billion of assets under management. ALT+J’s focus is on investments that build and support communities across the country. Co-Founder Jamey Edwards, who has spent his career as a serial healthcare and technology entrepreneur with experience building, scaling, and operating businesses through complexity, growth, and transformation, will serve as President and Operating Partner.

“Our mission is to invest in businesses that sustain our nation’s communities, deploying patient capital, operational experience, and targeted technology to spur innovation,” said Edwards. “The next logical evolution of our decades of impact in housing and healthcare was to support others seeking to do the same across all sectors, creating the foundation for our communities to thrive.”

ALT+J pursues a flexible mandate that includes control recapitalizations, founder transitions, family-owned business succession, corporate carve-outs, and special situations where ALT+J’s operating experience can drive value. A core element of ALT+J’s investment thesis is partnering with traditional, well-run businesses to invest in their technology infrastructure by layering modern tech stacks and AI-enablement onto solid operating foundations, unlocking the next phase of growth and transformation. ALT+J seeks to invest in companies with $20 million to $100 million in revenue and $5 million to $15 million in EBITDA, with a minimum target investment size of $12.5 million, across services, consumer, and traditional industry sectors.

ALT+J’s portfolio at launch spans five operating companies across housing, consumer retail, energy, impact investing, and senior living. They include a leading rent-to-own retailer with hundreds of locations nationwide; an impact-driven SBIC fund providing flexible capital to founder-led and family-owned businesses in the micromarket; a privately funded energy company focused on acquiring and operating assets in the continental United States; and a premier active-adult retirement community, spanning nearly 1,400 acres with more than 6,000 residents.

The firm’s name reflects its philosophy. On any Mac keyboard, the keystroke ALT+J produces delta (Δ) — the universal symbol for change. For ALT+J, the symbol represents the distance between a company’s current state and its full potential, and the firm’s mission of helping management teams close that distance.

“We are an alternative to the traditional investor for companies seeking a different path,” added Edwards. “We measure our success through the missions we helped achieve, the teams that found their footing, the cultures that held under pressure, and the communities that are stronger as a result. That is the math we believe in.”

ALT+J is actively pursuing additional investment opportunities and welcomes inquiries from founders, owners, management teams, intermediaries, and prospective co-investment partners. In the future, ALT+J will seek to add additional investment strategies, including venture, growth equity, and structured capital.
