The College for Financial Planning—a Kaplan Company is launching the Professional Generational Wealth Transfer Advisor designation program (PGWTA℠), designed to help financial advisors prepare for one of the most significant shifts in wealth management history. With an estimated $124 trillion expected to change hands over the next 20 years, the self-study program equips financial advisors with the expertise to help clients navigate wealth transfer in ways that reflect their values and support lasting legacies. The curriculum incorporates tax-efficient and risk management strategies, business succession planning, and strategic philanthropy, to combine comprehensive instruction in wealth transfer planning. It also provides practical guidance on navigating family dynamics and values, helping advisors engage the next generation of clients while strengthening long-term family relationships.

The program requires no prerequisites and leads to a recognized industry credential from the College for Financial Planning, which is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Credit earned through the program can be applied toward the College’s CFP® certification education requirements or Master of Science in Personal Financial Planning program, helping streamline professional development paths for both individual financial professionals and the firms that support them.

Dirk Pantone, president of the College, said:

“As trillions of dollars shift hands in the Great Wealth Transfer, remaining a trusted steward requires an entirely new caliber of specialized expertise. The College for Financial Planning established the Professional Generational Wealth Transfer Advisor (PGWTA) designation to directly confront this massive industry evolution. With research indicating that over 80% of heirs plan to leave their parents’ financial advisors, client retention has become a critical strategic imperative. The PGWTA℠ program answers this challenge head-on, equipping advisors with a first-of-its-kind, advisor-focused curriculum that signals elite capability in navigating complex family dynamics, tax-efficient strategies, and holistic legacy planning.”
