Mohamed Ahmed J. Al Thani Launches Blog

The oil and gas executive and former Minister of Economy and Trade for Qatar debuts a new web-based journal from which he will communicate his thoughts and experiences to the world.

DOHA, QATAR / ACCESSWIRE / November 3, 2021 / It is with great excitement that entrepreneur, oil and gas executive, and former Qatari cabinet minister Mohamed Ahmed J. Al Thani announces that he has launched a new blog, bolstered by two inaugural entries. The web-based journal is hosted by a well-known online platform, and primarily deals with matters relating to the energy sector and industrial development, which are Mohamed's areas of professional expertise.

In the latest entry, titled Insights Into Sustainable Development in Qatar From Industry Leader Mohamed Ahmed J. Al Thani, Mohamed begins by specifying what the often ill-defined phrase ‘sustainable development' actually means in concrete terms. "The definition of sustainable development is that supports the basic needs of a country's current residents while at the same time ensuring that resources will be available to sustain an equivalent quality of life in the future," he writes, before adding importantly, "Environmental protection is a keystone of sustainable development, along with preserving natural resources and the environment." Further along in the piece, the former Minister of Economy and Trade for Qatar delves into the particulars of how his home country aims to achieve this lofty-yet-attainable goal, stating, "Qatar's national goal is to achieve 20 percent non-gas energy by the year 2030. To meet this goal, developers are building an 800 MW solar plant with many other projects in the works. For a country with an economy partly dependent on revenues from fossil fuels, committing to a solar energy future is commendable."

In the preceding blog entry, titled Mohamed Ahmed J. Al Thani Discusses New Technology in the Oil Industry, Mohamed addresses the paradigm shifts in the energy sector being prompted by cutting-edge technological developments. In a passage dealing with drones and 3D virtual modelling, he remarks on how these technologies can not only be used to augment worker safety, but also as a way to educate workers. "Maintaining offshore flares is a dangerous job for most people. Using drones to inspect (oil and gas production) facilities will not require the production to shut down for multiple days. This process can save time and money while still giving an accurate representation of the facility. 3D digital modelling is frequently used as a teaching tool that does not jeopardize safety. Laser scanning data that is processed to generate models can prove helpful in and out of the classroom. Data visualization includes extracting 3D lines to demonstrate clinoforms and fracture geometry."
