Upon graduating from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Bill was commissioned as an Infantry officer. Over three decades of service saw him commanding Light Infantry and Ranger Training units, leading troops in some of the most challenging environments in the world.

His most notable deployment was from 2007 to 2008, when he served as the Senior U.S. Military Advisor to Afghan National Security Forces in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
