Froelick Gallery is honored to present its first exhibition of Daniel Robinson's paintings, marking the profound continuation of his decades-long engagement with agrarian landscapes and industrial architecture in the American West. Born in 1963 in Buffalo, New York, Robinson has spent over thirty years creating enduring images of our built and worked environment. Painting from his studio in Fossil, Oregon, Robinson captures a poignant twilight in his latest artworks; frozen in slanting, late-afternoon sun where bold geometries are softened by shifting clouds, fresh earth, and hedgerows. Robinson's paintings do not ponder the state of enterprise, but he is in love with its forms and the land. He holds deep respect for the great human efforts that make tillage, cultivation, and crop harvest possible. These paintings offer a compelling framework for a changing epoch. Robinson evokes a sense of past, present, and future by rendering rural architectural cathedrals and forgotten American vistas with realist reverence and artistic virtuosity.

"This 'promised land' east of the Cascade Mountains and south of the Columbia River is a unique area. The old Barlow Trail or 'California Road' as it was once called, is marked and measured by the creeks that flow down from Mount Hood. The steep-sided hills were formed by catastrophic flood and the dirt roads that lace between them connect old farms to the little towns that once existed. Some of these places are marked only by name but in others there will be a schoolhouse and maybe a grain elevator, marking the spot. It has been pure pleasure to explore this area, take in the vistas, and talk with some of the great-grandsons of the pioneers. Above all this there is a feeling I can't describe with words, and so I hope you will enjoy this group of paintings entitled 'Promised Land.'"
