VillageTalk is a new social media app founded in South Carolina, USA, with a mantra of ‘it takes a village’. The app is designed to offer users a communal and supportive space where they can choose to post and be a part of digital villages centered around issues which are normally difficult to talk about. The launch coincides with the latest figures from Smart Insights, which showcase that 4.62 billion people now use social media. However, this vast expansion of social media has sadly led to increasing amounts of hate speech and trolling online, with 25% of users reporting to the End Now Foundation that they have been subjected to online harassment on social media.
With this in mind, VillageTalk is determined to create a social media platform that is oriented towards love and acceptance, not hate. Their mission is to create a social support system that is organized around anonymous sharing and that offers an unbiased platform, unrestricted communication, easy access, a friendly interface, maximum privacy, and above all, a judgment-free space.
