Timothy Lubniewski Champions ALS Awareness Through Caregiving, Faith, and Family Resilience
Timothy Lubniewski shares his family's journey to raise awareness of ALS, recognize the vital role of caregivers, and inspire resilience, faith, and hope through service to others.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - August 21, 2026 - Entrepreneur and business leader Timothy Lubniewski is dedicating a new chapter of his life to raising awareness about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), supporting family caregivers, and encouraging others to find strength through faith, compassion, and resilience.

After spending more than two decades building successful businesses in the paving maintenance industry, Timothy made the deeply personal decision to step away from executive leadership to become the primary caregiver for his wife, Kathryn "KC" Lubniewski, following her ALS diagnosis. While caring for his wife and raising their two young sons, Timothy has become an advocate for greater understanding of the challenges families face while navigating one of the world's most devastating neurological diseases.

"For most of my career, leadership meant building businesses, solving problems, and helping people succeed," said Timothy Lubniewski. "Today, leadership means being present for my family every day. Caring for my wife and supporting our children has become the most meaningful responsibility I've ever had."

ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells responsible for voluntary muscle movement. According to The ALS Association, nearly 30,000 Americans are living with ALS at any given time, with approximately 5,000 new diagnoses each year. Although research continues to advance treatment options, there is currently no cure, making family caregivers an essential source of daily care and emotional support.

Timothy believes that while ALS changes lives, it also reveals extraordinary examples of courage, commitment, and love.

"People often think about the diagnosis itself, but they don't always see what families experience every single day," he said. "Behind every person living with ALS is a network of loved ones doing everything they can to provide comfort, encouragement, and hope."

Throughout his entrepreneurial career, Timothy built multiple companies after earning a degree in Economics from the State University of New York at Albany. His experience as a business owner and executive taught him the importance of preparation, perseverance, and making difficult decisions under pressure. Those same lessons have become invaluable as he navigates caregiving.

"In business, you learn how to solve problems and stay calm when circumstances change," Timothy explained. "Caregiving asks you to use those same skills, but with a much greater emotional responsibility. Every decision is made with the people you love at the center."

His decision to leave the corporate world was driven by a simple but powerful belief that family comes first.

"There are moments in life when your priorities become very clear," Timothy said. "Careers are important, but there are times when the people who depend on you need your time and your presence more than anything else. I have never questioned that decision."

The Lubniewski family's journey is also expected to be featured in an upcoming documentary exploring the experiences of individuals and families affected by ALS. Through authentic storytelling, the project seeks to increase awareness of the disease while highlighting the resilience demonstrated by patients, caregivers, and loved ones facing extraordinary circumstances together.

Timothy hopes that sharing his family's experience will encourage more conversations about caregiving and inspire greater support for ALS research and patient services.

"If our story helps another family feel understood or encourages someone to support ALS organizations, then sharing it has real purpose," he said. "Awareness creates compassion, and compassion leads to action."

Family caregivers continue to play an indispensable role throughout the United States. According to AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving, more than 53 million Americans provide unpaid care for family members or loved ones. Collectively, these caregivers contribute hundreds of billions of dollars in unpaid care each year while providing invaluable emotional, physical, and practical support that cannot be measured solely in financial terms.

Timothy believes caregivers deserve greater recognition for the sacrifices they make and the strength they demonstrate each day.

"Caregivers don't do what they do because they're looking for recognition," he said. "They do it because they love someone. But I do think society can do more to appreciate the challenges families face and provide them with the support they need."

Faith has remained a constant source of encouragement throughout Timothy's journey. He credits his beliefs with helping him maintain perspective during difficult moments while reminding him to focus on gratitude and hope rather than fear.

"My faith reminds me that I don't have to carry every burden alone," he said. "There are difficult days, but there is also hope. Every morning is another opportunity to serve the people who matter most."

Although Timothy plans to return to the workforce in the future, he believes this chapter has transformed his understanding of leadership and success.

"I've learned that success isn't only measured by professional accomplishments," he said. "It's measured by how you treat people, how you respond during adversity, and whether you're willing to put someone else's needs ahead of your own. Those lessons will stay with me for the rest of my life."

As awareness of ALS continues to grow, Timothy hopes more people will become involved by supporting research organizations, volunteering within their communities, advocating for families affected by the disease, and recognizing the vital role caregivers play every day.

"None of us knows what challenges life will bring," Timothy said. "What we can choose is how we respond. I hope our family's story reminds people that even during life's hardest moments, faith, resilience, and love can carry you farther than you ever imagined."
