Helsinki, Finland - March 28, 2025 - Youth football/soccer teams worldwide now have a groundbreaking tool to assess their competitive level with the launch of YTSI (Youth Team Skills Index). This first-of-its-kind, data-driven ranking system provides youth teams with a numerical YTSI Score (0-100) to help them compare their skill level with other teams of the same age worldwide.
By offering a standardized ranking, YTSI eliminates guesswork for coaches and club administrators, making it easier to select appropriate tournaments, leagues, and friendly matches. Already adopted by teams in Finland, the U.S., and beyond, YTSI aims to bring fairness and balance to youth football/soccer competitions globally.
Solving a Longstanding Challenge in Youth Soccer
One of the biggest challenges in youth football/soccer is finding well-matched opponents. Teams often enter tournaments or leagues without knowing if they will face overwhelmingly strong or weak competitors, leading to frustrating experiences and poor player development.
YTSI addresses this by providing an objective, data-backed ranking system. Coaches can submit basic team details through an online survey at www.ytsi.net and receive a YTSI Score via email. They can then compare their ranking to others in the global YTSI Index, ensuring fairer, more competitive matchmaking.
How YTSI Works
-
Coaches or team administrators complete a short survey on YTSI’s website.
-
The system generates a YTSI Score (0-100), reflecting the team’s competitive level.
-
Teams can use this score to find similar-level opponents for tournaments, leagues, and friendly matches.
With this simple process, YTSI brings transparency and efficiency to a previously unstructured and unpredictable aspect of youth sports.
The Vision Behind YTSI
YTSI was created by Ian Sacs, a football/soccer parent and volunteer coach, who saw firsthand the struggles of finding appropriate competition for youth teams. His experience led to the development of a free, easy-to-use tool that standardizes youth team rankings, helping clubs, coaches, and tournament organizers make informed decisions.
"Sure, YTSI is a small tool, but it fills a big gap," says Sacs. "By giving teams a way to compare skill levels, we’re helping players develop and making the game more enjoyable for everyone."
Future Growth and Expansion
Since its launch on March 20, 2025, YTSI has gained traction with youth teams across different countries. Looking ahead, the platform aims to expand its analytics capabilities, providing deeper insights to refine competitive balance in youth football/soccer.
The next phase of development includes enhanced data integration, regional rankings, and advanced analytics tools, all designed to improve team matchmaking and long-term player development.
