Saint Mary's College Museum of Art Presents Three Spring Exhibitions Featuring Hilda Robinson and Beth Van Hoesen

The exhibitions at SMCMOA bring together modernist works, contemporary sculpture, and collection-based programming.

MORAGA, CA / ACCESS Newswire / April 1, 2026 / Saint Mary's College of California is presenting its three spring exhibitions at the Saint Mary's College Museum of Art (SMCMOA), featuring works by artists Hilda Robinson, Zach Clark, and Beth Van Hoesen. The spring program presents three distinct exhibitions that span modern and contemporary practice, each offering a focused exploration of artistic perspective and place.

Hilda Robinson: Retrospective brings renewed attention to the work of the Oakland-based artist (1928-2023), whose vibrant oil pastels document spaces of joy, community, and everyday life within Black American public and social environments. The exhibition situates Robinson's work within broader conversations around representation and memory, highlighting her commitment to preserving lived experience through color and form.

Walking The Quiet: A Collaborative Commission by Zach Clark presents a site-responsive project that engages directly with the Saint Mary's College landscape. Through a collaborative process, Clark's work examines the layered histories, narratives, and perspectives embedded within the campus environment, positioning the exhibition as both an artistic and interpretive exploration of place.

Beth Van Hoesen: Felt Through Line features the work of the San Francisco-based draftswoman and printmaker (1926-2010), known for her precise, minimalist line work. The exhibition showcases her careful observation of objects, people, and animals, emphasizing clarity of form and the expressive potential of restraint within drawing and printmaking.

"These exhibitions reflect the range of work presented at the Museum and its role within the academic environment," said Lauren MacDonald, the Dean of the Library and Academic Resources and Director of the Museum of Art. "By connecting historical and contemporary perspectives, the program supports critical engagement with art across disciplines."

SMCMOA serves as a central academic resource, providing students with direct access to original works of art while supporting coursework through exhibitions, research, and faculty collaboration. The spring exhibitions continue in this vein, integrating visual culture with interdisciplinary study and campus engagement.
