The program is led by Professor Duane Smith, an educator and coach with more than three decades of experience teaching public speaking and communication across community college classrooms, graduate instruction, executive coaching, and online learning. The founder serves as a full-time professor of Communication Studies and speech coach at Los Angeles Valley College and has extensive experience teaching both traditional and fully online public speaking courses.
Empowering Speech is also guided by the founder's experience as a homeschool father. That perspective has helped shape a program grounded in structure, accountability, and disciplined thinking, while reinforcing a central belief: students grow when expectations are clear, effort is required, and responsibility is embraced.
