New Singleton Boulevard business marks demolished 1930s landmark with permanent Bonnie and Clyde memorial, commissioned mural by Alec DeJesus, and grand opening drive supporting Saint Mary of Carmel Catholic School's outdoor learning center

Hello! Deluxe Car Wash will open its fourth Dallas-Fort Worth location on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 1211 Singleton Boulevard, on the West Dallas parcel that includes the former site of the Barrow family filling station. The opening marks the first permanent commercial development on the site since the controversial 2022 demolition of Clyde Barrow's childhood home, and it will be anchored by a new commissioned mural from Dallas artist Alec DeJesus, a replica of the 1934 Ford V8 associated with Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, and a grand opening fundraising drive benefiting Saint Mary of Carmel Catholic School, located five blocks up the same street. The replica vehicle will remain on the property as a permanent installation.

The Hello! Deluxe Car Wash Los Altos location, named for the West Dallas neighborhood immediately adjacent, occupies land that has serviced vehicles since the 1930s. Henry and Cumie Barrow operated their Star Service Station at 1221 Singleton Boulevard, then known as Eagle Ford Road, during the years their son Clyde and his partner Bonnie Parker traveled the Midwest committing a series of robberies and murders. The couple died in a Louisiana ambush in 1934. The Barrow filling station remained standing for nearly nine decades until the Dallas Landmark Commission's two-year initiation window to designate the property as a city landmark expired in 2022. Property owner Brent Jackson filed a demolition order shortly after, and the structure was reduced to rubble that April.

Hello! Deluxe owner Frank Nuchereno acquired the vacant lot later in 2022, along with four adjacent parcels that included the longstanding West Dallas Pharmacy, Chuyitas Taqueria, a tire shop, and a fifth lot previously owned by HMK Ltd. The zoning was already commercial retail, and no changes were required from the city to develop the site as a car wash. Nuchereno, who owns three other Hello! Deluxe locations across the metroplex, has said publicly since early 2025 that he intended to mark the historical significance of the property rather than let it be forgotten.

"This ground has real weight to it, and we didn't want to open here without acknowledging what stood on it," Nuchereno said. "The plaque and the car aren't a celebration of what Bonnie and Clyde did. They killed people, including law enforcement, and that history isn't something to romanticize. But this was also a real family home in a real neighborhood, and West Dallas lost a piece of itself when that building came down. We wanted to give the community something to point to."

A commemorative plaque will identify the former location of the Barrow home and filling station, drawing on public records and reporting from the Dallas Free Press, Oak Cliff Advocate, and the City of Dallas Office of Historic Preservation. The replica Ford will be positioned on the property year-round, giving visitors, historians, and local tour operators a stable point of reference for a site that had, since April 2022, contained no visible marker of what once stood there.

The mural was commissioned from Alec DeJesus, a Chicago-born, Dallas-based artist whose recent work includes a forty-by-sixty-five-foot mural at the Frisco Discovery Center for the City of Frisco, contributions to the six-artist Loop Dallas trail project, and installations across Deep Ellum and the Design District. DeJesus paints his murals freehand, without stencils or projection, and is known for large-scale figurative work drawn from wildlife, symbolism, and themes of perseverance. The Los Altos mural will be visible from Singleton Boulevard and joins a growing catalog of large-scale public art shaping the visual character of West Dallas as the neighborhood continues to change.

Anchoring the August 1 grand opening is a fundraising drive benefiting Saint Mary of Carmel Catholic School at 1716 Singleton Boulevard, a parish school founded in 1944 that has served West Dallas families for more than eight decades. The proceeds will support the school's new outdoor learning center, a garden and open-air classroom space designed to give students hands-on educational experiences. During the grand opening period, any customer donating five dollars or more to Saint Mary of Carmel will receive a complimentary Best! Wash package, a twenty-five-dollar value, at the Los Altos location. Donations can be made three ways: through printed car wash tickets sold directly by Saint Mary of Carmel, in person at the Hello! Deluxe pay station on site, or online through a digital fundraising page accessible via QR code on Hello! Deluxe promotional materials.

"Saint Mary of Carmel has been on this street since 1944," Nuchereno said. "They were here before the freeway went in. They were here when this whole neighborhood got called Cement City. If we're going to be a business on Singleton Boulevard, then the school on Singleton Boulevard should be the first place we invest."

The West Dallas neighborhood has been the subject of significant redevelopment pressure and displacement concern over the past decade, particularly following the 2016 sale of more than three hundred rental homes formerly held by HMK Ltd, many of them concentrated in Los Altos and the surrounding blocks. Longstanding neighborhood institutions like Saint Mary of Carmel have continued to serve families through those changes, and the fundraiser is intended, according to Nuchereno, to signal that the new business is trying to invest with the neighborhood rather than around it.

The Los Altos car wash offers express tunnel washing, free self-serve vacuums, single-wash pricing, and unlimited monthly memberships. It joins Hello! Deluxe locations elsewhere in the DFW area and in the Denver, Colorado market. Grand opening festivities will run from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2026, and members of the media are invited to attend for on-site photography of the mural unveiling, the Bonnie and Clyde vehicle, and the Saint Mary of Carmel fundraiser kickoff.
