Discover South Carolina announces updates to its VisitFlo website and mobile application, now featuring historical markers and sites in the wider Florence region.
—
The official VisitFlo website and mobile app now details a variety of historical landmarks in the Florence region of South Carolina, including the Kress Building, Hewn Timber Cabins, William H Johnson Statue, and Florence National Cemetery. The app allows users to create an itinerary using markers that have been pre-loaded, which now include historical sites.

In addition to points of interest, VisitFlo offers options for accommodation, dining, shopping, and local events. The goal is to provide a convenient resource that can be used on mobile devices, enhancing the experience of visitors, while also helping them discover sites that they might not otherwise have known existed.
“Our VisitFlo app conveniently offers detailed listings of dining options, shopping venues, outdoor activities, events, and more, complete with navigation assistance and Google Reviews,” a representative of Discover South Carolina explained. “Florence’s rich history is preserved through its many historical markers and sites, and they’re all now listed on the app, so you can build them into your itinerary.”
As the revised app explains, Florence National Cemetery was established during the Civil War and is the final resting place for thousands of soldiers. Notable burials include Florena Budwin, who disguised herself as a man to serve alongside her husband, who was a captain in the federal forces.
Other historical attractions now detailed include hewn timber cabins from the antebellum (pre-Civil War) period, as well as a statue of renowned African American painter William H Johnson.
