New Smyrna Beach, Florida – Volusia County-based personal injury firm Rue & Ziffra donated $2,500 to Easterseals Florida at Edgar’s Farm through the law firm’s RZ Cares community initiative. The donation will help support therapeutic and learning programs serving children and adults at the New Smyrna Beach farm.
Edgar’s Farm, located at 3804 Pioneer Trail, offers equine-assisted services designed to support people with disabilities and other needs. Its programs include therapeutic riding and equine-facilitated mental health and learning services.
The farm’s therapeutic riding program serves about 70 riders each week. Riders learn horsemanship skills while taking part in activities tailored to their abilities. Participants range widely in age, with riders as young as 4 and a rider who reached age 88 last year.
Therapeutic riding can include grooming and bonding with horses, riding exercises, games and activities involving problem-solving or communication. Easterseals Florida describes the program as an approach designed to support development and quality of life for children with disabilities.
Edgar’s Farm also provides equine-facilitated mental health and learning services. Horses become part of a team that can include a licensed mental health professional and certified equine specialist. The farm offers individual and group sessions, and many of its mental health services work with preadolescents and adolescents.
