ODIN passive RF sensor jailbroken for open integration with Army command networks, with real-time data exchange demonstrated with the Maven Smart System

R2 Wireless, a defense technology company specializing in passive RF sensing and electromagnetic situational awareness, today announced that its ODIN sensor system was “jailbroken” during Operation Jailbreak 2.0, held at U.S. Central Command in Tampa, Florida, under the U.S. Army’s Right to Integrate (R2I) initiative. During the event, ODIN demonstrated open, documented interfaces and real-time data exchange with the Maven Smart System (MSS). ODIN’s API is now listed on the Army API Marketplace.

Operation Jailbreak is the Army’s effort to break decades of proprietary lock-in between defense platforms. Under the Right to Integrate framework, defense companies and Army engineers work side by side to expose, document, and test system interfaces. The goal is an open architecture where sensors, C2 nodes, and effectors share data in real time, regardless of manufacturer. A system is designated “jailbroken” once it demonstrates interoperability through documented APIs, working data streams, and integration with the Army’s mission command stack.

For R2 Wireless, being jailbroken is more than a milestone. It confirms a design philosophy the company built in from the start. ODIN has used an open API architecture since its inception, sharing sensor data through a documented GraphQL interface over secure HTTPS and WebSocket connections so it can act as a force multiplier for the other systems.

The integration positions ODIN as a passive sensing layer within the Army’s common operational picture. It feeds electromagnetic intelligence into C2 platforms without active emissions, proprietary hardware, or bespoke software development. ODIN multi-node deployments detect, classify, geolocate, and track RF-emitting threats from 100 MHz to 6 GHz. Commanders get early warning and positional data on UAS, ground control stations, communications devices, and other wireless emitters, all without revealing their own position.

“The Right to Integrate initiative is reshaping how the Army acquires and fields technology, and Operation Jailbreak is the proving ground,” said Cordell Bennigson, CEO of R2 Wireless U.S. “ODIN was built to plug in. Open architecture was never a checkbox for us. Being jailbroken confirms that ODIN is ready to operate as part of the Army’s networked sensing layer, delivering real-time RF intelligence to the entire layered defense stack.”

As the Army builds open interface requirements into future acquisition contracts, ODIN’s jailbroken status and Army API Marketplace listing give units a direct path to integrate passive RF sensing into their existing networks.

ODIN addresses an urgent operational gap. In contested electromagnetic environments, active sensors expose their own position and GPS-dependent systems are vulnerable to jamming. ODIN is passive and undetectable, operates continuously, and does not depend on satellite navigation.

ABOUT R2 WIRELESS

R2 Wireless delivers passive RF sensing and electromagnetic situational awareness capabilities for defense, security, and government customers. Its ODIN system detects, classifies, geolocates, and tracks RF-emitting threats, including UAS, ground control stations, and communications devices, from 100 MHz to 6 GHz without transmitting a detectable signal. ODIN’s open API architecture integrates with existing command-and-control systems, tactical networks, and third-party sensor platforms. R2 Wireless has offices in Austin, Texas, and Tel Aviv, Israel.
