Zero Infinity Partners (ZIP), an early-stage venture capital firm operating at the intersection of physical infrastructure and technology, today announced its second fund, with $156 million in commitments to invest in early-stage companies. The fund is 50% larger than its predecessor fund and was oversubscribed.

Founded in 2022, ZIP is based in New York City, the global hub of infrastructure capital, and composed of investors and advisors with extensive firsthand experience in physical infrastructure. The new fund will continue the firm’s mission of harnessing that unique expertise to identify and invest in founders and companies deploying innovative technologies and business ideas to the world’s physical infrastructure systems.

ZIP’s core thesis is that compounding megatrends – including the rise of AI and robotics, reindustrialization, geopolitical shifts, power constraints, and aging physical infrastructure – have converged to create both an urgent infrastructure need and a multi-trillion-dollar innovation opportunity. To meet this moment, ZIP aims to pioneer infrastructure technology, or “infratech,” as a distinct venture investing category, and to bring to it the best infrastructure thinkers in venture capital.

“Every great wave of digital innovation has been preceded, and ultimately constrained, by a wave of physical buildout,” said ZIP founder and managing partner John Kwaak. “We are at that inflection point right now, and the infrastructure layer must be rebuilt smarter, faster, and more capable before the next generation of technology can take hold. We’re focused on providing visionary founders and companies with the investment capital and sector expertise they need to do exactly that.”

The firm’s purpose-built team encompasses decades of infrastructure experience, unique within the venture landscape, with backgrounds in private equity, project development, and entrepreneurship. Team members come from infrastructure and energy investing backgrounds at Antin, Blackstone, Fortress, Glencore, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Stonepeak, as well as venture backgrounds such as Collaborative Fund and First Round Capital.

– “The opportunity to modernize our infrastructure has never been greater, but bringing innovation to complex, mission-critical systems comes with unique demands. ZIP helps founders anticipate these considerations from day one and build a path to successful adoption at scale.” Michael Whitaker, former Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration and a member of ZIP’s senior advisory board.

– “ZIP brings founders together with experienced operators who can help bridge the gap between innovation and real-world adoption.” Rob Knight, former Chief Financial Officer of Union Pacific and ZIP senior advisory board member.

The firm's 2022 inaugural fund includes Metropolis, which grew from 600 locations in 2022 to more than 4,600 in 2026, becoming North America’s largest parking network with over 30 million members and a valuation exceeding $5 billion. Other investments included EnCharge AI, a chip company developing ultra-efficient AI accelerators using analog in-memory computing, and Azalea Robotics, which builds robotic systems to safely and reliably automate baggage handling at airports worldwide. ZIP’s Fund II continues the firm’s three focus areas of AI infrastructure, metal midstream, and aviation infrastructure – fields in which bottlenecks ZIP identified at the time of its first fund have continued to deepen. Companies in the firm’s second fund include Fluidstack, Somos, Bright AI, and General Aviation.

“Infratech is a distinct category, and it requires a distinct playbook,” said Kwaak. “The rules are different: the cost of failure is a grid outage, an aviation incident, or a billion-dollar construction delay. Winning in this space requires combining ambition, daring, and speed with patience, industrial fluency, and an almost fanatical respect for the operating environment.”
