Long-Time Seattle Financial Radio Hosts Go Podcast-Only; Don McDonald and Tom Cock Invite Loyal Seattle Listeners to Follow Them to Their Top-Ranked Podcast After Final Radio Broadcast on March 28

Don McDonald and Tom Cock, hosts of the long-running financial program Talking Real Money heard weekly on Northwest NewsRadio, will air their final radio broadcast on March 28, 2026. The pair will continue the show exclusively as a podcast, where it has grown into one of the top-ranked financial podcasts in the country.

"We've loved being on the radio in Seattle for more than three decades, but the podcast format is the future of broadcast audio, in the same way streaming is the future of television," said McDonald. "Our podcast is the same show, the same conversations, the same advice, but our listeners can join anywhere, anytime, not just Saturdays at noon.”

“We know this might feel unfamiliar for some of our listeners, but anyone who has a smartphone is already walking around with a podcast player," McDonald added.

"The best part about going podcast-only? A bigger audience for my bad dad jokes," said co-host Tom Cock. "But seriously, this format lets us spend more time on what matters, helping people make smarter decisions with their money, without a clock telling us to wrap it up."

Don and Tom were early adopters of podcasting, launching one of the first investment podcasts in the early 2000s, well before podcasts became mainstream.

"When we launched our first podcast back in the 2000s, we never imagined it would get this big," said McDonald. "Today, podcasts can be heard on every phone, in every car, anytime. In many ways, they're easier to listen to than broadcast radio, our original environment."

The move reflects broader shifts across audio media. According to the Pew Research Center, 42 percent of Americans age 12 and older reported listening to a podcast in the past month, up from just 12 percent in 2013. Edison Research has found that podcast listening time has now reached parity with radio listening time.

Since launching the podcast, Talking Real Money has grown to rank among the top 1 percent of podcasts by downloads, according to Podstatistics.com. The podcast was named one of Feedspot's 100 Best Investing Podcasts and earned Money Magazine's Top Podcast pick in 2008. McDonald and Cock produce five Talking Real Money episodes a week.

Don McDonald hosted a nationally syndicated financial talk show since 1988. Tom Cock programmed and owned business talk radio stations for years as well as hosting the PBS television program Serious Money. Together they have built a loyal following for their plainspoken, consumer-first approach to investing and retirement planning.

The Talking Real Money podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and all major podcast platforms. For more information, visit www.talkingrealmoney.com.
