Gatby Energy Choice Announces New Group Rate Program, Cheaper Electricity Plans

New Program Uses “Reverse Auction” to Offer Lower, Fixed-rate Plans

Benji Thomas, founder and CEO of Gatby Energy Choice — a free, easy-to-use online marketplace for comparing energy plans — announced the launch of the new Gatby Group Rates program in Dallas-Fort Worth. The program uses a “reverse auction,” where energy providers bid to offer their lowest fixed-rate electricity plans not provided anywhere else. Renters and homeowners in DFW can now enjoy these exclusive group rates.

Where an auction normally drives up prices, this “reverse” one incentivizes the energy providers Gatby partners with to offer their lowest electricity rates in order to win the group contract. With Gatby Group Rates, the lowest rate always wins the bid. That means the more people who join, the lower the rates providers are willing to offer — rates consumers won’t find extended to the general public.

“When I founded Gatby, my goal was to give more power to the consumer so they feel confident in their choice of energy provider,” Thomas said. “Finding the best plan for you or your family shouldn’t be some huge undertaking. Gatby takes the confusion and headache out of the process. And now, with Gatby Group Rates, people have even more power — collective buying power — than ever before.”

How Gatby Group Rates works

Rather than comparing plans themselves, consumers can simply join a group and let Gatby do the legwork — for free. With Group Rates, users select their desired service start date and are directed to the appropriate group. Say a homeowner wants their new plan to begin service July 1; they would need to sign up for the July group by June 15. After that, the energy provider auction begins, so users can either join the next month's group or search Gatby for other available plans.

Joining a group does not lock in or enroll consumers in a plan — and, once the provider auction concludes, group members are not obligated to enroll in the selected plan. However, those who do join the “Gatby Galaxy” can expect to see clear energy savings. While the amount varies based on group size and energy providers' bids, compared to standard rates, users save between $400 to $1,100 a year, on average. Group auctions occur monthly, so consumers will have multiple chances throughout the year to join.

“Being a part of the Gatby Galaxy is not just about getting lower rates,” Gatby Head of Growth Brenna Kenefsky said. “It’s about being part of a community that’s making smart energy choices together. The more people that join the Galaxy, the better the savings, creating a win-win for everyone involved.”

Referring friends and family to join

The power really is in the hands of the consumer, even when it comes to increasing group size. In fact, consumers receive $10 for each successful referral, and the person who refers the most people will receive a year of free electricity, paid by Gatby. Not only that, but one person in the group will be randomly selected to win a cash giveaway prize, with the amount based on the member milestone achieved.

Now launched in DFW

Gatby has launched this revolutionary reverse auction in DFW, which means consumers will have until May 15 to join the June group.

“With inflation and the economic insecurity consumers are experiencing, this is just one way Gatby can help people feel more in control,” Thomas continued. “We get it. We know what it’s like to be frustrated with high energy bills and gimmicks that tack on extra hidden costs. Gatby was created to make the energy process easier, more transparent, and more tailored to people’s actual usage and needs — no tricks, just clean rates and more money in your pockets.”
