Hall-Long’s Support Craters When Voters Learn About Troubles Plaguing Her Campaign, To Benefit of Matt Meyer

A new poll released this week by Citizens for Judicial Fairness found current Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long with an 11-point lead on Matt Meyer in the Delaware Democratic Gubernatorial primary, but with a plurality of voters still undecided..

The survey conducted earlier this month of 600 registered Democratic voters in Delaware found the Hall-Long’s lead falters when voters learn more about the ongoing audit of her campaign finances and her ties to the Delaware political machine of current Governor John Carney, who has tried to elevate Hall-Long as his hand-picked successor.

The poll also revealed:

  • 79% of Delaware voters say the elections next year are an opportunity to bring in new faces into Delaware politics that reflect the diversity of the state by electing more women, people of color, and young people, even if it means some current politicians are no longer in office.
  • 69% of Delaware voters say the state needs more change in its politicians.

"These results are an ominous canary in the coal mine for Governor Carney, a career politician who has been running for and holding office at every level of government for 25 years, and his hand-picked successor Bethany Hall-Long. It's clear the First State wants a new direction and a fresh face that will better represent the people of Delaware," said Wilmington Activist and Citizens for Judicial Fairness spokesperson Keandra McDole. "We are eager to continue watching the developments of this year’s elections and ensure that our core issues including judicial reform and diversity are prioritized by leading candidates."
