Egypt Construction Market Size, Trends and Forecasts Report 2022-2026: Growth in Egypt's Construction Industry has Been Revised Down Due to High Inflation and Currency Depreciation - ResearchAndMarkets.com

The "Egypt Construction Market Size, Trends and Forecasts by Sector - Commercial, Industrial, Infrastructure, Energy and Utilities, Institutional and Residential Market Analysis, 2022-2026" report has been added to ResearchAndMarkets.com's offering.

The forecast for growth in Egypt's construction industry has been revised down, owing to ongoing economic instability in the form of high inflation and currency depreciation, along with rising prices for energy and construction materials.

Although these issues present downside risks in the short term, the general outlook for construction output is still relatively strong, with growth expected to stand at 9.7% in real terms in 2022, following 8.5% growth in 2021.

The solid pace of growth reflects the work on major infrastructure projects, including the New Administrative Capital (NAC), New Alamein and New Galala. According to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the construction industry's value add grew by 8.5% year on year (YoY) in Q4 2021, preceded by Y-o-Y growth of 10.7% in Q3 and 8.3% in Q2 2021.

In March 2022, the government announced that it planned to implement 45 major national and strategic infrastructure projects in the financial year (FY) 2022/2023 (July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023), including the construction of 10 transverse axes on the Nile, the establishment of 18 overpasses, the completion of 1,000km of electrification of railway signals, the expansion of a metro network and the completion of 47 express train stations.

In the FY2022/2023 draft Budget, the government also announced the establishment of more than 600 hospitals and medical centers, as well as 200 schools. In addition, it plans to establish 94 hospitals and 448 health units within the comprehensive health insurance system, as well as the establishment of 115 sewage treatment plants and 27 water desalination plants in the initial phase of works, with an announcement expected this year.

Over the remainder of the forecast period, the construction industry is expected to register an annual average growth rate of 10.6% during 2023-26, supported by investments in the development of energy, oil and gas and residential infrastructure.

Qarun Petroleum Company announced plans in March 2022 to produce over 20,500 barrels of oil per day (bbl/d) during 2022/23, with a EGP4.1 billion ($242 million) investment in a drilling program that includes 27 exploration and development wells.
