Thousands of votes from Texans help recognize Fort Worth's free, family-friendly automotive and toy destination

FORT WORTH, TX, October 03, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The votes are in, and Fort Worth has another reason to celebrate. The DFW Car & Toy Museum has been named a Best of Texas winner in the Museum category, recognizing the unique North Texas attraction through the annual Best of Texas awards from Guide to Texas.

For the team behind the museum, the award is especially meaningful because it came from the people who actually walked through the doors, explored the collection, brought their families, shared their experiences and took the time to cast a vote.

"We are incredibly grateful to everyone who voted for us," said Ron Sturgeon, founder of the DFW Car & Toy Museum. "We built this museum because we wanted people to have a place where they could see incredible cars and toys, learn something, have fun and simply enjoy themselves. To have Texans recognize us with this award means a tremendous amount to us."

From a Personal Collection to a Texas Destination

The story of the DFW Car & Toy Museum began decades before the museum opened its doors in Fort Worth.

Founder Ron Sturgeon began collecting toys in the 1980s and eventually expanded his collection to include full-size automobiles. What started as a personal passion continued to grow over the years, eventually becoming a collection of more than 200 cars and more than 3,000 toys and collectibles.

The collection was originally housed in Haltom City, where Sturgeon had built his automotive business. As the collection continued to grow, so did the need for a larger home.

That led to the museum's move to 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth, where the DFW Car & Toy Museum officially opened in March 2025. The museum quickly became a destination for car enthusiasts, toy collectors, families, travelers and anyone looking for something a little different to do in North Texas.

Today, visitors can explore an ever-changing collection featuring European classics, American automobiles, Japanese cars, race cars, celebrity vehicles, unusual and quirky automobiles, vintage toys, model cars, robots, antique German toys and much more.

And perhaps one of the biggest surprises?

Admission is free.

The museum was created to be accessible to everyone, whether someone is a lifelong car enthusiast, a serious collector, a parent looking for something fun to do with the kids or simply curious about what is inside.

What Is the Best of Texas Award?

The Best of Texas awards are presented by Guide to Texas, an annual statewide program that allows readers to nominate and vote for their favorite Texas businesses and organizations.

According to Guide to Texas, winners are selected primarily based on voting results, with votes reviewed for validity and winning businesses reviewed as part of the verification process. The program recognizes businesses across numerous categories throughout Texas, with the Best of Texas designation representing its highest statewide winner designation.

For the DFW Car & Toy Museum, being recognized in the Museum category is particularly special because the award represents support from the people the museum was built for: its visitors and the broader Texas community.

"We don't take this for granted," said Sturgeon. "Every person who visits, tells a friend, posts a photo, leaves a review or votes for us helps us continue building something special here in Fort Worth. We are very thankful."

More Than a Museum

The DFW Car & Toy Museum has also become a gathering place for the North Texas community.

The museum hosts events every weekend, bringing together car clubs, collectors, families, enthusiasts and visitors from throughout the Dallas Fort Worth area. From car shows and specialty gatherings to toy events and community activities, there is always something different happening at the museum.

And the museum isn't just a place to attend an event. People can host their own events at the museum.

With flexible event spaces and a collection unlike almost any other venue in the area, the DFW Car & Toy Museum offers a memorable setting for private parties, corporate gatherings, club events, meetings, celebrations and other special occasions.

Visitors can check the museum's event calendar to see what is coming up, or contact the museum about hosting an event of their own.

Come See What Texas Voted For

The DFW Car & Toy Museum invites both longtime supporters and first-time visitors to come experience the collection for themselves.

Located at 2550 McMillan Parkway in Fort Worth, Texas, the museum offers free admission and welcomes families, car enthusiasts, toy collectors and well-behaved dogs.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with final entry at 5 p.m.

With more than 200 cars, thousands of toys and collectibles, free admission and events happening throughout the year, there is plenty to discover.

And after being named Best of Texas, the museum has one simple message for everyone who helped make it happen:
Thank you, Texas. We couldn't have done it without you.
