Cancun Airport Transportation Services Reinforces Preventive Measures Due to Increase in Flight Traffic

By: Get News

The Cancun International Airport (CUN) reports the mobilization of 11.8 million passengers in the January-July period of this year, which means that it is still 23.9% below the levels it maintained prior to the pandemic, according to Asur data.

However, Cancun received more than 2 million travelers last month, mainly tourists who, after getting vaccinated, are looking to travel and choose Cancun for its great tourist infrastructure. In total, the terminal handled 2 million 373,668 passengers in July, which meant an increase of 1.1% compared to the same month of 2019.

Of this total, 1 million 441,679 are international passengers, 284.7% more than in July 2020 and only 1.1% down compared to the same month of 2019. To move this large number of tourists from Cancun airport to their destinations of interest and avoid crowds, the airport has implemented the use of authorized transportation companies, as is the case of eTransfers, a private transportation company, which has proven to comply with health protocols to perfection.

A total of 931,989 domestic travelers arrived, representing a 135.4% increase over 2020 and 1.9% compared to 2019. Also in shuttle services, measures have been implemented to avoid exposing travelers, so companies such as Cancun Shuttle Transportation, have implemented the use of COVID-19 Prevention Kits.

During this weekend, the air terminal reported a total of 1,035 operations, of which 540 were registered on Saturday and 495 on Sunday. On several occasions since the pandemic began, the terminal has exceeded 500 operations in one day.

The record so far is 553 operations recorded on July 17 of this year, close to the airport’s daily operation levels prior to the health crisis.

Prior to the collapse and recovery of flights due to the pandemic, Asur reported that the all-time record of operations in a single day was 659, recorded on March 31, 2018.

Among the destinations with which CUN already has normalized connectivity are Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Bogota, Calgary, Caracas, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Istanbul, Philadelphia, Frankfurt, Guatemala, Hartford, among others.

Another service that has had to be reinvented is the car rental service, although it is a little less measurable the behavior of travelers who rent cars, car rental companies such as Car Rental Cancun, which meets and exceeds the protocols of prevention.

In addition to the progressive recovery in daily operations, last June, Cancun captured the highest volume of international tourism in the country, with more than double the number of travelers than even Mexico City.

This was announced by the Federal Secretary of Tourism, Miguel Torruco, who through social networks stated that during June Cancun’s airport attracted a total of 627,283 international tourists, Mexico City 245,831, Los Cabos 187,576, Puerto Vallarta 105,025 tourists and Guadalajara 104,794. This means that Cancun has a 44.5 percent share of international tourism in Mexico.
