   CNOOC Limited not a Party in Joint Bid for Husky Energy Inc

(Hong Kong, February 20, 2002) -CNOOC Limited (the "Company", SEHK:883; NYSE:
CEO) states today that the recent speculation in the press regarding a
potential offer or joint offer by the Company for Husky Energy Inc is
inaccurate.

The Company confirms that there are no negotiations or agreements relating to
cited acquisitions which are discloseable under paragraph 3 of the Listing
Agreement of SEHK where the Company is listed, neither is the Company aware of
any matter discloseable under the general obligation imposed by paragraph 2 of
the Listing Agreement, which is or may be of a price-sensitive nature.

Mr. Fu Chengyu, the President and COO of the Company commented, "While we
remain open to worthwhile investment opportunities, our current focus is to
execute our ongoing corporate strategy in place. At the moment, we are not in
any active discussions concerning an offer for the energy company as reported
in the press."
