NOTICE TO THE MARKET

COMPANHIA SIDERURGICA NACIONAL (“CSN”) hereby announces that it has been negotiating a formal agreement with Companhia Vale do Rio Doce in order to resolve certain commercial and legal disputes between the two companies.

As yet, there is no document signed by both parties. CSN will keep its shareholders and the market informed regarding the eventual execution of an agreement.
