Hydro Quebec Enters Commercialization Agreement for WireScan Technology with ASI

In a joint agreement, ASI and Hydro-Québec worked hand in hand to specify the details for the industrialization and commercialization of a new laser scanning tool that can precisely measure hydro dam components above and below the water line.

MONTRÉAL, QC AND STONEY CREEK, ON, January 28, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- ASI Services Techniques Inc. (ASI), a division of ASI Group Ltd., a globally recognized company in underwater inspection, maintenance, and repair, and Hydro Québec (HQ), the largest energy provider in Canada and one of the largest in the world, have signed an agreement for the commercialization of WireScan. This new technology, developed by the HQ research and development team, is a laser scanning tool that can precisely measure hydro dam components such as stop log and gate slots above and below the waterline.

Hydro-Québec has extensive experience in hydroelectric installations maintenance and operation, operating a vast hydroelectric production park containing 688 dams, 62 hydroelectric plants and 99 spillways.

WireScan produces engineering-level, three-dimensional data, providing dam owners measurable and benchmark data that are critical for condition assessment and asset management. The WireScan data enables dam owners to identify anomalies and allow for planned repairs, thereby optimizing refurbishment strategies, while reducing the risk of consequential gate failure. This technology also significantly reduces risks for workers by limiting traditional manned inspections.

"ASI is committed to being a world leader in underwater technologies, and we are excited to be able to offer our clients this new technology. The WireScan will allow us to provide our clients with invaluable data," said Carmen Sferrazza, President and CEO of ASI Group Ltd. "This contract award will allow ASI to market this technology and services worldwide."

"ASI is a company with significant expertise in the remote inspection of underwater infrastructure, as well as a global reach. This experience will allow other utilities to benefit from our WireScan technology" said Patrick Judge, head of business development for Hydro-Québec innovations.

ASI and Hydro-Québec worked hand in hand to specify the details for the industrialization and commercialization of the WireScan technology in a joint agreement.
