Diaspora Psychedelic Society Announces Their Official Launch As A Psychedelic Wellness Center

Jamaica-based psychedelic wellness center announces their official launch with the mission to train Jamaican therapists and clinicians

January 16, 2021 /MarketersMedia/

It is looking like the dawn of a new beginning in the Jamaican psychedelic wellness industry. Founded by Omar Thomas, the Diaspora Psychedelic Society is looking to support personal healing and the daily practices that transform lives with the launch of their seaside psychedelic wellness center. The goal of the center is to combine affordability with quality and to ensure that as many Jamaican locals, therapists, and clinicians as possible are able to enjoy both the healing and economic benefits of the psychedelic renaissance taking place on their home island.

The wellness industry has witnessed tremendous growth over the years, with several services providers and other stakeholders contributing their quota to making it a multi-billion-dollar market. Psilocybin-assisted retreats have also become increasingly popular as people begin to appreciate the healing benefits of so-called, “magic mushrooms” and other psychedelic substances. Jamaica ranks as the top destination for institutions hosting legal therapeutic psychedelic group retreats. Around the world, costs vary, however, many such events do not properly emphasize integration, fail to deliver the true essence of the medicine encounter, and often come with a high price tag to boot. Diaspora Psychedelic Society is looking to change this narrative as a full-time psychedelic wellness center delivering relatively affordable integration-based services through a private and small group format.

Diaspora Psychedelic Society hopes to positively disrupt the Jamaican psychedelic wellness industry with their affordability, quality, and the integration of Jamaican locals as equals and stakeholders rather than relegating them to day laborers and support staff. Their vision is to train Jamaican on all levels who are interested in learning more about the industry. This stance resonates with the center’s principles of democratizing the sacred medicine experience, community-building, and bridging the gap between communities.

For Omar Thomas, this is a homecoming story. Raised in the US by West Indian parents, and after years studying sacred medicines in Mexico, he is returning to Jamaica as the only black man at the head of such an organization. Asked what his main objectives are, he states, “my goals are to increase fair and equitable access, ensure better outcomes in personal and professional therapeutic psychedelic exploration, and ensure the inclusion of Jamaican therapists and clinicians through education on the latest techniques in the emerging psychedelic wellness industry.”

The center currently operates at their Covid-compliant, seaside location on the southern coast of the island, with plans to break ground on a new multi-acre 100% sustainable sacred medicine facility by the beginning of 2022.
