The newly released rapid COVID-19 testing technology is known as Abbott ID NOW. Abbott COVID-19 assay performed on the ID NOW Instrument is a rapid molecular in vitro diagnostic test utilizing an isothermal nucleic acid amplification technology intended for the qualitative detection of nucleic acid from the SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA in direct nasal, nasopharyngeal or throat swabs and nasal, nasopharyngeal or throat swabs eluted in viral transport media from individuals who are suspected of COVID-19 by their healthcare provider. Testing is authorized for laboratories certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA).
Turnure Medical Group has been testing patients since the start of the pandemic. In late March, they started in-house testing and expanded to drive-up testing in late April.
Their drive-up testing service involves them assigning parking spots to patients and samples being collected through the car window and put in a secure vial. The new testing method that they have released is another addition to their extensive line of patient first services.
In the Rocklin area, there has been a severe shortage of test kits. For patients to receive health care, they were required to be tested. This has escalated the rate at which the kits have been depleted.
In addition to healthcare, a test has been required for air travel to many destinations requiring test results within 72 hours of travel. The current standard testing methods and apparatus available cannot deliver results that fast.
With the new machine that Turnure Medical Group has acquired, they can offer unlimited testing to residents in the area in 15 minutes.
