TLG Motion Pictures Selects Tacoma Filmmaker as Winner of The Big Pitch

Seattle-based Production Company Awards Crisantos Chavez $20,000 to Develop Film on Privilege

SEATTLE - August 5, 2020 - (Newswire.com)

TLG Motion Pictures, founded by Seattle-based film and television producer Courtney LeMarco, announces that it has selected Crisantos Chavez as winner of The Big Pitch, a competition providing opportunity for young adult minorities (aged 18-25) in Seattle with a strong interest in film, production, and content creation. The 25-year-old Tacoma, Washington, resident has been awarded a $20,000 Service Grant toward the development of his film concept PRIV-I-LEGE.

Chavez’s PRIV-I-LEGE tells the timely story of 13-year-old Will who learns about the selfish “I” located at the center of privilege. After transferring from his prestigious private school to the lowest-performing middle school in the country, Will soon comes to the realization of the life and friendships he’s been missing out on and the opportunities taken away from those who don’t look or talk like he does.

“The inspiration behind PRIV-I-LEGE was motivated by what’s going on in the world today. Within the conversations surrounding racial privilege, there are assumptions made by some people that minorities fit negative racial stereotypes,” says Crisantos Chavez. “With PRIV-I-LEGE, I wanted to show how important it is to take the time to get to know someone and listen to their story and come to an understanding that these stereotypes aren’t accurate. I’m honored to be The Big Pitch winner and have the opportunity to bring this story to life.”

Chavez was chosen from a talented pool of 10 finalists who also had the opportunity to present their television or film concept to the producers at TLG Motion Pictures. Some of the final pitches included a docuseries on the challenges endured by young BIPOC chasing success from Zoya Pirtle, Dina Hamid’s teen drama-comedy series centered around the lives of four different 17-year-old girls in Detroit, and the unexpected story of three minimum-wage furniture movers who discover they’ve been secretly drug trafficking for their boss written by Myles Ross.

“Choosing The Big Pitch winner was extremely difficult as each finalist presented such powerful and well-rounded stories,” said Courtney LeMarco, President of TLG Motion Pictures. “PRIV-I-LEGE stood out to us the most given the current civil rights movement and rhetoric surrounding racial equity. We’re looking forward to helping Crisantos share his film with the rest of the world.”
