Huron Names Ernest Torain Jr. General Counsel, Corporate Secretary

Global professional services firm Huron (NASDAQ: HURN) today announced that it has named Ernest “Ernie” Torain Jr. as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective Mar. 1, 2020. He succeeds Diane Ratekin, who has served in the role since 2011 and is retiring after 15 years with the company. Torain will be responsible for Huron’s global legal function. He will serve as a member of the executive leadership team and a legal advisor to the senior management team and the board of directors.

“Ernie is a tremendous addition to our executive leadership team,” said James H. Roth, chief executive officer, Huron. “Ernie’s broad expertise across a range of disciplines, including commercial contracts, M&A, intellectual property and litigation, will be an asset as Huron continues to grow and execute on our strategy.”

Before joining Huron, Torain spent nearly 10 years at Illinois Tool Works Inc (NYSE: ITW) in a variety of roles, most recently serving as Associate General Counsel. In addition to his in-house roles, Ernie had a nearly 20-year career in private practice where he worked for a number of Chicago-based law firms with a focus on M&A and corporate finance. Prior to joining ITW, Torain spent more than six years at Vedder Price where he was a shareholder in the firm's securities and capital markets practice.

Torain received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and received his A.B in economics from Dartmouth College. He is a member of The Executive Leadership Council and The Economic Club of Chicago. He also served as a member of the steering committee for the ITW African American Network. Torain will be based in Huron’s Chicago office.

Ratekin will remain with Huron in an advisory capacity through the end of the year to facilitate a smooth transition for Torain.

“On behalf of the board of directors and all Huron employees, I want to thank Diane for her numerous contributions, expert advice and counsel as she helped guide Huron through a period of significant growth and transformation,” said Roth. “We wish Diane all the best in her retirement.”
