Jay Debertin, Elizabeth Simermeyer Join Securian Financial Board of Directors

Jay Debertin, president and chief executive officer of CHS Inc., and Elizabeth (Beth) Simermeyer, Ecolab Inc.’s executive vice president of global marketing & communications and life sciences, were elected to Securian Financial’s board of directors at the company’s June board meeting.

Debertin was named chief executive officer of CHS in 2017 after 33 years in leadership roles with the leading energy, grains and foods company, and largest member-owned cooperative in the United States.

He leads the CHS strategic leadership team that strengthens the company by advancing operational excellence, accelerating its focus on results, and delivering products and services in support of the cooperative’s 600,000 farmer-owners.

Previously, Debertin was executive vice president and chief operating officer for the company’s diverse energy operations and processing and food ingredients. He joined CHS in 1984 in its petroleum division, holding a variety of leadership positions including overseeing energy marketing, crude oil supply, refining, pipelines and terminals, trading and risk management, and transportation.

In addition to his leadership of CHS, Debertin serves as chairman of the board for Ventura Foods, LLC, a joint venture of CHS and Mitsui & Co. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of North Dakota and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin.

Simermeyer is executive vice president of global marketing & communications and life sciences for Ecolab, the global leader in water, hygiene and energy technologies and services that protect people and vital resources.

She leads the company’s global marketing, communications and brand development initiatives as well as Ecolab’s life sciences business, which provides end-to-end contamination control programs to meet the exacting needs of personal care and pharmaceutical research and manufacturing facilities.

Prior to joining Ecolab in 2014, Simermeyer held several management positions during her 19 years with S.C. Johnson & Son, including senior vice president–home cleaning, North America; president and general manager of S.C. Johnson and Son, Limited, Canada; and vice president–marketing, developing platform. She also held marketing and product development roles in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Previously, Simermeyer served in several marketing roles at Procter & Gamble. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, and an MBA from the University of Michigan.
