Retirees Are Unprepared For Rising Health Care Costs

California based Senior Care Center1 would like to issue a public advisory that today’s retirees should be vigilant regarding the rising cost of healthcare and plan accordingly for their future. A recent Commonwealth Fund study found that American seniors are sicker than the elderly in other countries—and are more likely to go without essential care because they can’t afford it.

In response to this, Senior Care Center1 recently expanded the range of services they offer in their mission to help families find the appropriate assisted living and residential care facilities for their senior loved ones. “Many retirees want to remain independent, and rarely think about how they will cope with their failing health or cognitive decline. Increasing health care costs should be a concern for many seniors, who often put off visiting the doctor or even filling out a prescription,” said Casey Ryeback of Senior Center1.

Senior Care Center1 provides a full range of services for families and seniors, especially those who can be caught unprepared by bloated healthcare bills. Digital Journal recently quoted Ryeback: "We know that it can be frustrating, even frightening, to find a suitable home for your loved ones. We offer assistance to those looking for a good place for their elders to spend their golden years, and we can find an assisted living facility that meets your family's specific needs."

Senior Care Center1 offers Residential Care Homes, Assisted Living, Alzheimer’s Care, Nursing Homes, Senior Apartments, and Independent Living. Most seniors have a strong desire to remain independent as long as possible, but do not want to deal with the heavy maintenance that having a home entails, nor the financial burden of inflating housing costs, taxes and energy costs that come with remaining in their home.

When saving for health expenses, many retirees underestimate the amount that they need to save. “Most people think about the cost of medication, insurance, and out of pocket medical expenses. However, chronic conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, make it more likely that long-term care is needed. Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia are also becoming very common among seniors, requiring a safe place with long-term care as a part of their treatment. The same is true if the person in question has a bad fall. The bottom line is that Medicare doesn’t include long-term care, except in certain circumstances. With more seniors living longer, coupled with the increase in chronic illnesses, the rise in insurance premiums and healthcare costs was inevitable,” said Ryeback.

“I didn’t know where I could go and find Dad the right kind of nursing he needed,” said Mark J., giving the company a 5-star rating. “Senior Care Center1 helped me find a home where I know Dad has the best nurses available to him.”

Senior Care Center1 offers a free consultation service to help families get the best possible care for their loved ones, tailoring their approach to suit each family’s needs and financial circumstances. “Many seniors prefer a more private, quiet setting than facilities can provide, yet are concerned about the cost and financial burden on their families,” said Ryeback. Residential care homes provide an intimate space, typically with six or fewer residents in residential or communal homes. The homey environment gives seniors a relaxed and comfortable living space, and the care home staff are made up of qualified care assistants who monitor the residents 24 hours a day, with fully trained nurses available on an as-needed basis. Marina O. gave Senior Care Center1 a 5-star rating, saying that they were a, “Very helpful and great service! I couldn’t have gone through this without the help of my Senior Care advisor. I’m glad my aunt is in a home that is able to meet her needs. The peace and quiet they can provide is good for her.”

The increasing costs of healthcare means that many seniors are forced to cover costs out of any savings and retirement income, and often become a burden on their families. “Our senior citizens paid into Social Security and into their retirement funds, but the value of money is not the same as it was when they made their investments. As a result, this unfortunately means that many elderly patients can’t afford their healthcare, especially if healthcare assistance is required around the clock. At Senior Care Center1, our aim is to give seniors this help so that they can live the life they deserve,” stated Ryeback.
