Heartland Fire Paramedics in San Diego Help Students Understand their Duties Through World of Work Meet a Pro Chat

During a Meet a Pro session, Heartland Fire Paramedics who serve San Diego’s East County area showed World of Work what it takes to be a paramedic for a fire department. Heartland Fire Battalion Chief, Jay Wojnowski, welcomed World of Work into their firehouse show how firefighters and paramedics work together to answer the call to rescue. Meet a Pro chats are just one of the many benefits that students have access to when their school is apart of the World of Work community. With Meet a Pro sessions available to hundreds of classrooms at once, the effect this can have on students’ futures is endless. Meet a Pro chats can be streamed live or viewed later, but either way, these virtual field trips take students to exciting careers they may not have ever considered before.

One Paramedic Firefighter working for Heartland Fire shared his story of what inspired him to become a Firefighter Paramedic. While in the foster care system growing up, Mitchell Langdon felt like the community around him raised him and set him on a positive path for his future. Mitchell wanted to give back and find a way to take care of his community. Finding a career that suits each child’s unique strengths, interests, and values can be challenging, but the World of Work curriculum gives schools a foundation to make it possible. In the Meet a Pro chat featuring Heartland Fire, students were given an inside look at the people, the job, and the life-saving equipment that is apart of a career in firefighting or paramedics. Meet a Pro sessions are just one incredible aspect of the World of Work program that can take teaching kids about careers to actually giving students a path to their future.
