“National Teen Driver Safety week is a great time for parents and loved ones to talk with young drivers about road safety – including tire safety,” said Anne Roman, Vice President of Communications & Public Affairs. “Tires are the only thing connecting a car to the road, so teaching young drivers how to check their tires – including their tire pressure, tread depth and overall tire condition – before they head out on the roadways is very important.”

Tread Wisely offers a free mobile app that includes how-to videos, showing in two minutes or less how to perform these important tire safety checks, as well as videos on other driving safety topics such as how to change a flat tire, what to put in an emergency kit, what to do if involved in an accident, what to do if the check engine light comes on and more.

Roman added, “Parents and teens can watch these videos together, and then practice performing tire safety checks. Tires should be checked once a month and before long road trips, and National Teen Driver Safety Week is a great time to begin making this a habit.”

The Tread Wisely app also includes a unique ‘I Got There’ feature that allows young drivers to set a reminder to tell their parents when they have arrived at their destination. With just a couple of touches, users can send a pre-written text letting loved ones know they made it safely. In addition, it provides monthly reminders to complete tire safety checks as well as quizzes to test tire safety knowledge.

The free Tread Wisely app is available for download from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android). To learn more about Tread Wisely, visit www.treadwisely.org.
