New leadership at Lake Square Mall, headed by owners Meir Benzaken and Laurent Abitbol, has continued to guide the mall during its much-anticipated revival. These past few months have seen major positive changes, with a lot more coming. Here is just a snippet of some of the exciting news and events taking place.
Exterior renovations have officially started: A groundbreaking event in late June helped kick-off Lake Square Mall’s exciting new exterior renovations. These will include renovations to the two main entrances flanking Belk, which will be converted into covered, drive-up drop-off lanes enclosed in glass and featuring pavers and artistic lighting. In addition to the entrances, seven new outparcels are set to be developed behind Ichiban, Wendy’s, Dunkin Donuts, and SunTrust. Extended plans include a repaving of the entire parking lots and a complete upgrade of all the mall’s landscaping.
The new ownership has been delivering on their promises to improve the mall by starting the reroofing process, as well as the replacement of AC system. As it goes with most construction projects, there were some minor inconveniences such as a leakage in the Belk store roof, which temporarily closed the store for only a day. They ask to please forgive any additional inconveniences during this time as construction continues.
Thank you to the city of Leesburg for providing Lake Square Mall with a grant to support these important projects. Together, Lake Square Mall can be built back into modernity, beautifying the city and bringing back important commerce and community engagement opportunities.
New store openings: When the mall was purchased, there were over 30 store vacancies. Today, 18 of those are either new stores that have opened or rented spaces that are set to open soon. One of the new tenants preparing to open their doors is Winterland, an indoor ice skating center that will provide the complete “chalet” experience, with ice skating, drinks, and entertainment (including a DJ and light shows). Another upcoming new tenant is Le Chocolatier, a Miami-based purveyor of artisanal chocolates, candies, and gift baskets.
Tons of new attractions: Lake Square Mall is reclaiming its title as a hotspot destination for family-friend entertainment. The VIA Entertainment wing of the mall features tons of new attractions for children, including Bugzy’s Power Jumping (a combination of bungee jumping and trampoline jumping), Animals of Oz (motorized ride-on animals), and the newest attraction, Kidz Corner, featuring inflatable fun houses. Additional entertainment additions include Adrenaline Rush (an indoor go-cart racing experience) and an all-new billiards section near the arcade. And there’s more to come—VIA Entertainment is currently working in a gaming experience exclusively for adults.
New at Belk: Belk, one of the mainstay stores of the mall, will be hosting a number of kid and back to school events in the next couple of months. They’re also proud to introduce their brand-new Crown & Ivy line for children, with plenty of styles for heading back to the classroom.
Adoption event success: June’s Blondie’s Angels adoption event was a major success, with a total of 19 animals finding their forever homes! Congratulations to the animals and their new families.
In addition to all of the positive advancements, Lake Square Mall’s ownership would like to express their sincerest condolences at the recent passing of Lanny Husebo. Husebo and his team at Husebo Marketing have played an integral part in upgrading the mall from what it once was to what it is today, and his efforts will always be remembered as we celebrate how far we’ve come.
