Renew Your Nebraska Driver’s License and Become an Organ Donor

The state of Nebraska provides citizens the ability to renew their driver’s license online and register to be an organ donor in honor of National Donor Day, and every day when they use the Department of Motor Vehicles’ mobile responsive, online driver license renewal application.

From home, work or the road, a commercial driver or private citizen driver, using a phone, tablet or PC, can access the application via the internet, add their information, and complete the transaction—all without a trip to a branch office. The hurdle to change a residential address has also been removed by allowing mobile uploads of proof of residence.

One organ donor can save up to eight lives. With the transplant waiting list growing every 10 minutes, the need for organ donations continues. Donations focus on those in need of five points of life: organs, tissues, marrow, platelets, and blood. Many nonprofit health organizations sponsor blood and marrow drives and organ/tissue sign-ups across the nation. National Donor Day was started in 1998. Brent Hoffman, GM of Nebraska Interactive, said, “With people being added to the transplant waiting list every day, we’re happy to provide the option for citizens to give the gift of life by becoming a registered organ donor. Knowing the option is programmed in the app for people to choose organ donation and that may facilitate saving lives, that’s pretty thrilling when you stop and think about it.”
