Bug discovered in Mac OS High Sierra

The markets traded mixed during the midday with the Dow climbing 91 points to 23,928. Nasdaq plummeted 89 points to 6,822.


A bug was discovered in the latest version Mac OS that would allow hackers to completely control devices with operating system. Apple released a patch this morning that will automatically install on affected devices. The company will also conduct an audit of its software development process to prevent future security lapses.


Facebook has temporarily suspended the ability of advertisers to exclude certain ethnic and racial groups from receiving ads. Lawmakers have criticized the feature as discriminatory against minorities. The social media giant will research how advertisers use the feature then work with anti-discrimination groups to improve its targeted advertising process.


Uber's troubles continue to deepen after a company attorney testified that former chief executive Travis Kalanick and some board members knew about a letter that detailed efforts of the company to acquire trade secrets and intelligence. The letter that recently surfaced prompted a judge to delay the start of Waymo's lawsuit against Uber for stealing confidential information. The judge said that the lawyer's testimony indicated a possible cover-up.


In the broad market, declining issues edged out advancers by a slim margin on both the NYSE and on Nasdaq. The broader S&P 500 eased a point to 2,625. Bitcoin soared $266 to $10,186.
