Smart, witty and fearless in its pursuit of levity, The Lobby is the latest release from Randi M. Sherman and it's one you have to read! An author who excels in credible characterization, this time she places her characters into illuminating parodies of her setting, consistently devising turns of plot that are inventive and yet, in the best way, seemingly inevitable. Matched only by her witty ear for dialogue, it is without doubt a masterful narrative that's infused with passion and benefits from flawless delivery. With so many story threads, it's not an easy task and whilst the denouement isn't arrived at easily or predictably, it is most importantly a lot of fun to get there. It seems that Sherman's goal is the liberation of tedium from the chains of timidity, banality and our daily identity and on this level there's a certain cathartic pleasure to be found in the events that touch her characters. Page by page her prose takes control and by turn compels us to reflect, or laugh out loud, as we find ourselves mingling with the guests and daily visitors to the Shipley Hotel.
