LineGard Med™ Wins Delta Entrepreneurship Showcase at New Orleans Entrepreneurship Week

By: PRLog
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - March 23, 2016 - PRLog -- LineGard Med finished in first place out of 19 different businesses competing in the 2016 Delta Entrepreneurship Showcase.  The competition is conducted annually during New Orleans Entrepreneurship Week for start-up companies from the 8 states making up the Delta Region: Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee. The showcase of companies is organized by the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) and is a multi-month process that began in Memphis, TN last fall and culminated with the announced winner on March 17, 2016.

Katie Milligan, director of small business & entrepreneurship for the DRA said, "This year's entrepreneurs bring incredible business models that have the potential to disrupt the industries that they are working within.  These are companies that have grown out of the Delta and plan to stay in the Delta, investing in their local community.  We're proud to be able to support them with a strong network of resources, mentors and peers."

LineGard Med is the developer of the SafeBreak™ I.V. medical device that prevents dislodgement and pull-outs of medical tubing.  Clinical studies show that approximately 7% of I.V. lines are dislodged in various hospital and long-term care settings.  Over 200 million I.V.s are installed in the United States each year, making I.V. dislodgement a significant healthcare issue.

The company's business plan resonated with the judges and the New Orleans Entrepreneurship Week attendees that voted on the winner.  Spencer Jones, LineGard Med Founder and CEO, made the pitch at the competition.  After the big win he stated, "This is another validation of our simple and elegant solution to help prevent I.V. dislodgement.  There are approximately 24 million I.V. dislodgements in the U.S. alone annually.  Our device can be used on any I.V. line and is going to help eliminate pain and delayed treatment for many, many patients in the United States and around the world."

Winning the grand prize provides LineGard Med with an additional $10,000 to help bring the SafeBreak I.V. to market.   Jones said, "We haven't yet decided how we are going to invest the proceeds from winning the competition, but this amount of money opens up some great possibilities such as hiring a summer intern, doing an additional clinical study, or purchasing a new exhibit booth.  These are things that will allow us to move our business forward more quickly."
