CAST Highlight Adds Support for PHP

CAST (Euronext: CAS), a world leader in software analysis and measurement, today announced that applications built with PHP are now supported by the company’s Highlight portfolio analysis SaaS platform. This new release lets IT organizations inspect, analyze, and rationalize the risk in their application portfolio. PHP analyzer joins a long list of enterprise application languages supported by the code quality as a service offering. The new release also includes a beta version of a new automation toolkit that allows IT leaders to sync portfolio analysis and reporting with their development schedules without human intervention.

“With Highlight, it’s never been faster or easier to make sound business decisions through a better understanding of the risk and complexity of an organization’s entire application portfolio,” says Pete Pizzutillo, Worldwide Director of Product Marketing at CAST. “With version 1.7, IT leaders can look on the client- and server-sides of any PHP-powered web application, as well as applications built in many other popular languages. For organizations building software or cloud services that depend on a browser experience, the ability to dynamically measure the risk across their entire IT portfolio is crucial to containing costs, heightening reliability, and understanding productivity.”

With CAST Highlight 1.7, CIOs can understand the current state of their entire IT portfolio with a meaningful inventory of high-level analytics on each application. CIOs can then compare those applications against objective industry benchmarks that have been developed by CAST over the past 20 years, culled from over 1,000 applications. And because it’s a software service, Highlight can be quickly deployed simply by downloading an analysis agent from a secure site -- eliminating the need for dedicated infrastructure or moving source code from its repositories.

Crucial portfolio stats and health status are displayed in an easy-to-read dashboard, giving CIOs the facts they need to rationalize a cost-effective development strategy and decide which applications should be targeted. Additional dashboards show the top-10 riskiest applications in the portfolio and the technical debt of each, arming IT leaders with metrics that help them understand how their teams are performing, and whether or not they’re providing quality code or hiding risk.

Specific to this release are two key updates:

  • PHP analyzer: The Highlight service provides in-depth code-level analysis for a variety of coding languages. CIOs can now manage and evaluate their outward-facing web applications -- online shopping carts, communication sites, and web content management systems -- using Highlight the same way they would with any other supported language (C, C#, C++, Java, VB, .NET, COBOL, ABAP, VB6, PL/SQL, TSQL, PL1).
  • Automation toolkit: Currently in beta, the toolkit allows customers to upload their source code to a shared cloud folder and easily produce automated reports. Synced with a development schedule, CIOs can judge risk, development costs, complexity, and software maintenance all while the application is being built.
