Lauran Farnham — Integration Insights transcript

Hi, I’m Laura Farnham, Vice President and General Manager of our fire and security business. Today, I’d like to share with you some of my thoughts about why this is a really exciting times as Johnson Controls and Tyco come together and merge as a one new, Johnson Controls.

When we started the North America Customer Growth Strategy a few years ago, our goal was really simple. Sell more stuff to our customers. So, if you think about what Tyco brings to the new Johnson Controls, it’s quite simply, more stuff. So we have expanded our line card enormously with market leading products and brands that every single one of our customers can use. Conversely, Tyco brings a huge portfolio of customers that don’t necessarily have HVAC and controls. So we can bring to them, again, a huge new line card of opportunity.

If you’re not familiar with Tyco, you might be wondering: “What does this really mean to building efficiency?” Well, Tyco is the world leader in security and fire products and services. And you probably remember that earlier this year we launched the ‘strategy of both’— great products and great channels, and so what Tyco brings are more great products and more great channels.

Given my role, I often get asked why I’m excited about this integration. Sure, there is a lot of short-term opportunity ahead of us. But what I personally find really exciting is the marriage of all of our low-voltage capabilities and our ability to really take a leadership role in the building of the future — working together to define that new strategy, that new roadmap of what buildings will look like in five to ten years is really exciting.
